A third series of federal indictments has been brought against the former chairman of the Rochester Housing Authority, George Moses.
The 27-count superseding indictment accuses the 50-year-old Moses with 25 counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud, federal program fraud, identity theft and filing false tax returns. Co-defendant Janis White, who was the authority's secretary, is charged with four counts of conspiracy, wire fraud and obstruction of justice.
Federal prosecutors say Moses and White were charged in a second indictment back in November with conspiring to defraud Rochester Housing Charities and the social service agency Quad A for Kids. White was charged in connection with one of the schemes to defraud the RHC.
The superseding indictment includes those earlier charges, but adds new charges against Moses. They say he used funds belonging to Northeast Area Development, or NEAD, which Moses also headed, to buy items for himself and others. Those purchases included a cruise vacation, spa visits, firearms, dental bills and tickets to a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden. It says Moses also used Freedom Community Enterprises funds to buy himself a $20,000 time share in Florida.
