Warren Approves of State Financial Monitor for Rochester Schools

Reaction continues to pour in regarding a proposal included in Governor Cuomo's state budget aimed at helping the Rochester City School District close its budget gap. The plan is for the state to give Rochester schools $25 million in new aid...plus appoint a financial monitor to make sure it's being spent properly.

Mayor Warren says this is an important first step to eventual city control over the school district, which she says is damaging the city's financial health by its poor choices. Warren says she wants to jointly appoint the state monitor along with the State Education Commissioner.

The City School District has already laid off teachers in order to save about $10 million as it tries to close a remaining budget gap of around $30 million.
