NYS Legislature Introduces Bills that Could End Life Prison Sentences

Bills introduced in the state legislature could end life prison sentences.

One would allow anyone who has served 15 years in prison to get a parole hearing at age 55, even if their original sentence called for more time.

And another bill would lower the bar for an inmate to show evidence of rehabilitation, making it easier to earn parole.

Both bills have stalled in the legislature in the past, but they have the support of Senate Democrats. Senate Republicans call them bad policy.
