The Rochester school board is being urged to push back the start of the school day for high school students.
A psychologist who co-authored a study at the University of Rochester says teenagers aren't getting enough sleep.
He told the board that their bodies are programmed to get to bed later and wake up later.
His study recommends classes start no earlier than 8:30 a.m.
The research showed lack of sleep can lead to anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts.
