The new year means the arrival of the first African American woman to Monroe County Court bench.
Karen Bailey Turner was elected, along with fellow Democrat Michael Dollinger, in November. They defeated two Republicans, including incumbent John DeMarco.
Turner was born in London and was raised in Jamaica.
She is beginning a ten-year term.
