UR Medicine is making plans to put an orthopedic center at the vacant former Sears store location at Marketplace Mall.
If approved, it will be the biggest offsite construction project in University of Rochester history.
The Sears building would be the ground floor of a $240 million multi-story tower.
All out-patient orthopedic care and surgery would be consolidated and expanded there. The site will be three times the size of the current Clinton Crossing center.
Pending approval by state and local authorities and UofR trustees, the building could open in 2023.
