Rochester Voters Approve Police Accountability Board

With nearly all the votes counted, it looks as though the City of Rochester will set up a civilian police accountability board.

The referendum to set up the board has passed by a vote of 75 percent "yes" to 25 percent "no." It directs the city to create the independent accountability board which will have power to review citizen complaints against police officers, and to discipline officers found to have engaged in misconduct.

The Rochester Police Locust Club, which is the patrol officer's union, has vowed to fight establishment of the board in court.
