Guilty Plea For Contractor Who Filed False Tax Returns

A Rochester man who owned a paving and sealing company has pleaded guilty to filing a false tax return after he failed to report nearly two million dollars in income over several years.

Federal prosecutors say Jason Bassett cashed checks he received for paving jobs but failed to deposit the money into his business bank account.

Prosecutors say he also failed to tell his tax return preparer that he had cashed numerous business checks, leading to the preparation of false personal income tax returns from 2012 through 2015.

Bassett faces three years behind bars and a $250,000 dollar fine.
