ESPN's Chris Mortensen was the first to report Monday evening that the Buffalo Bills have decided to move on from wide receiver Zay Jones.
Mortensen says the former second round pick has been traded to the Oakland Raiders for a fifth round draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The move by Bills General Manager Brandon Beane comes just a day after Jones was essentially benched for Duke Williams in Sunday's game at Tennessee.
Williams was signed from the team's practice squad on Saturday, and on Sunday caught the game winning touchdown pass from Josh Allen. Jones played just one snap in the 14-7 win over the Titans.
The move by Beane could be seen as the first big draft miss in the Sean McDermott era.
The 2017 draft was McDermott's first as head coach, and the last for then General Manager Doug Whaley. Whaley was fired on April 30, the day after the draft. Beane was hired to replace Whaley 10 days later.
In order to draft Jones at 37th overall that year, the Bills traded their second round and third rounds picks (44th and 91st overall) to the L.A. Rams.
In two-plus seasons in Buffalo Jones played in 36 games, starting 27. He had 90 receptions for 1037 yards and 9 touchdowns.
