New Grease Trap Regulation "Bryce's Law" Passes Unanimously

Monroe County lawmakers have given unanimous approval to "Bryce's Law" -- the new regulations governing grease trap covers.

The law is named for the boy who died this summer when he fell into a grease trap behind a Rochester donut shop.

County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo says Bryce's death exposed a loophole in state law -- since no single agency was responsible for regulating the covers.

The regulations call for food service businesses to make sure the grease trap covers are properly secured and are heavy enough to prevent unauthorized access.

The County will make annual inspections.
