Five Charges Dropped with 'Superseding Indictment' for Collins and Son

A federal grand jury has handed out a "superseding indictment" in the case against Congressman Chris Collins.

It replaces the original insider trading indictment against Collins, his son and other parties. It drops three of the seven securities fraud charges against Collins, and two of the charges against his son, Cameron. Both continue to face other securities fraud charges from the original indictment.

In a letter to the judge, Federal Prosecutor Geoffrey Berman said the new indictment will avoid "pretrial litigation" that could delay the resolution of the case.
