The Rochester City Attorney's Office has release the official text of the Police Accountability Board referendum to be voted on by city residents in November.
The language submitted to the Monroe County Board of Elections is consistent with legislation approved by City Council back in May. If approved it will set up a panel independent of the police department, with authority to hold hearings on police conduct and order discipline if it found police misconduct.
The board would have nine members. One would be appointed by the mayor, and eight by City Council. Council has said it will allow community groups to suggest the names for half of those appointees. It will fill the remaining four seats on its own.
