The Lake Ontario REDI Commission met in Greece today (Wed) to gather ideas on how to improve the lake shore across New York State. But it heard a lot about something it can't do anything about: Plan 2014.
Lakeshore residents blame the new international regulatory plan for the high water this year and in 2017 that flooded homes and businesses with the lake at record high levels. State Senator Joe Robach says we need a dual track approach....fighting Plan 2014 and also working with local government, residents and shoreline business owners on what they'd like to see done to toughen the shore against flooding and improve the economy at the same time. That’s the business of the REDI Commission.
They're giving priority to ideas that will have a regional benefit. Governor Cuomo has set aside $300 million for such projects. Local governments will have to come up with 15 percent of the project cost.
