The United Way of Greater Rochester says more than 5,000 volunteers from businesses, schools and other organizations are taking part today in this year’s Day of Caring.
The United Way calls it the community’s single largest volunteer effort and says it helps nearly 200 local not-for-profit organizations and the people that they serve.
Some of the projects include reading to children, painting and organizing donations for shelters.
Other volunteers are cleaning up parks, planting community gardens and getting children’s outdoor play areas and summer camps ready for the warm weather.
