Legislation Introduced To Ban Toys Made With Toxic Chemicals

New York State lawmakers are passing legislation to ban toys made with toxic chemicals. The legislation would require manufacturers to tell state regulators if a toy has hazardous materials in it, such as lead. Then beginning in 2023, toys with certain toxic chemicals would be completely prohibited.

Supporters say it is common sense legislation to protect kids. Critics say the bill is unnecessary because there's already federal standards in place. They also raised concerns that the legislation would hurt businesses in the region. The bill now heads to Governor Cuomo's desk.
