Flu Cases Spike in Monroe County

Health officials say the flu is circulating through Monroe County at a very high level. As of January 19 there were 437 confirmed cases -- more than twice the number from the previous week.

Health officials say the actual number is likely much higher, because doctors sometimes diagnose the flu without seeking confirmation from a lab.

You are advised to wash your hands thoroughly, and often, and stay home from school or work if you get sick,. People typically get sick within one or two days after being exposed to the flu.  And experts say it is not too late to get vaccinated.
