City Officials Announce New Location for Proposed Performing Arts Center

The City of Rochester says there are some changes to plans for a proposed Performing Arts Center downtown.

Mayor Lovely Warren held a news conference this morning announcing that the site of the proposed theater complex has moved from Midtown to the Riverfront, and the estimated price has nearly doubled.

Plans call for the Riverside Hotel to be torn down and a new hotel to be added to the complex -- which will also include retail and residential space, and a garage.

The complex would cost an estimated $250 million -- up from the $130 million estimate for what had been proposed for Parcel 5.

Mayor Warren says the project will be a cornerstone of the ongoing riverfront makeover called ROC the Riverway, and would be a partnership of developer Dave Christa, the Riverside Convention Center, and the Rochester Broadway Theatre League.
