The suspect in two Rochester shooting incidents is dead after leading multiple police agencies on a wild chase through Rochester that ended on Frances Street.
Rochester Police Chief Mark Simmons says they've identified the shooter as 47-year-old Terrell Blake of Rochester, an African-American man who had threatened to kill his family. Simmons says Blake shot and killed his ex-girlfriend and wounded another man in an incident on the east side, then drove to another location where he shot and wounded his son, a man in his 20s.
The wounded man ran to School 25 for help, prompting a lockout of city schools. The lockout was lifted a short time later. A short time later, police spotted the U-Haul van Blake was driving on Emerson Street on the west side.
Police gave chase, during which Blake began firing out of the van at a Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy standing by the road.
He exchanged fire with pursuing officers, including Rochester, State and Irondequoit Police.
Deputy Rochester Police Chief LaRon Singletary says Terrell Blake died after trading gunfire with police, but didn't say if he was shot by police or took his own life.
Mayor Lovely Warren spoke says police acted professionally to keep it from getting worse. Mayor Warren also said we need to find better ways of resolving disputes.
