Two Men Who Helped Save Drowning Boy; Honored with Carnegie Medals

Two men who helped save a drowning boy at the Irondequoit Bay outlet last year are being honored with Carnegie Medals for heroism.

Jason Sigelow, of Irondequoit, and Philip Orzech, of Connecticut, saved nine-year-old Jose Cruz-Gonzalez, as the boy and his brother were swept by the current into deep water near a jetty.

Sigelow drowned during the rescue and is getting a posthumous medal. The Carnegie Medal is awarded to Americans and Canadians who risk their lives to an extraordinary degree to try to save others.
