A couple who had recently moved to Seneca Falls from Salem, Massachusetts, is now facing charges, accused of beating their three-year-old son.
The child's mother Alison Bovio and step-father Donald Bovio have been charged with first degree assault.
Police say they received a 911 call reporting a toddler had fallen down a flight of stairs.
Seneca Falls Police Chief Stuart Peenstra called the scene horrific. Saying when they arrived, they found an unresponsive child, suffering from serious injuries to the head and body.
The child was flown to the hospital, where medical staff told police the injuries were inconsistent with a fall. The boy is in critical condition, and on life support.
Additional charges are pending. The case now heads to a grand jury.
