A Kendall man has been arrested in connection with the deaths of a mother and son. David Wiley, 39, is charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide and two counts of reckless endangerment in the deaths of Joan Gilman and Richard Gilman. The Gillmans were found dead inside their home in April. Crews were called for the report of a propane gas leak at the Center Road home. Orleans County Sheriff’s deputies said Wiley, the caretaker for the duplex where he and the Gilmans lived ran a generator in a closed garage beneath the victims’ bedroom for more than 17 hours between April 16 and April 18. Police said National Grid had shut off power to the property around April 16. Autopsies of the victims determined they had extremely high levels of CO in their bodies. Deputies allege Wiley acted in a way that created, “grave risk of death to another person,” and that his action, “was a gross deviation from what would be that of an ordinary prudent person in the same circumstance as to be incompatible with proper regard for human life.” Wiley was arraigned at the Albion Town Court. He is due to appear at Kendall Town Court on May 7.
