Conference realignment has given the ACC a strong Big East feel and that has led to a more plodding, grind-it-out style growing to define the new look league.

In an effort to speed things up and get back to its up and down roots, the conference has decided to try out a 30-second shot clock in exhibition games.

Jim Boeheim has long been a proponent of shortening the clock; now he and his fellow ACC coaches will have a chance to see how it works up close and personal.

The NBA shot clock is a mere 24 seconds long, and that might put too much pressure on collegiate guards to get their teams into offensive sets, but 35 is entirely too long. Let's hope the exhibition test works out well and serves as a major step toward a universal 30-second shot clock for college basketball sooner rather than later.
