Warren wins big and other primary results

Rochester, NY- Mayor Lovely Warren easily won the Democratic party primary Tuesday, more than doubling the combined total of her two challengers.

Warren received around 62% of the total votes.  County Legislator James Sheppard received roughly 22% and former TV journalist Rachel Barnhart about 16%.

Sheppard will still appear on the ballot in November as he previously secured the nominations from the Working Families and Independence lines.  

Republican Tony Micciche, Green Party candidate Alex White, and People's Party candidate Lori Thomas will also be on the general election ballot.


CITY COUNCIL (5 AT-LARGE SEATS)

Voters also decided on which five candidates would appear on the Democrat line for the city council vote, and one incumbent didn't make the cut.

Dana Miller has served on city council since being elected in 2005.  He has served as Vice President since 2012.

Council President Loretta Scott received the most votes .  Incumbent Jackie Ortiz, current school board member Malik Evans and former Monroe County Legislator Willie Joe Lightfoot, and Mitch Gruber round out the top five.


ROCHESTER CITY SCHOOL BOARD (3 SEATS)

Board President Van Henri White received nearly 24% of the vote.  Incumbent Cynthia Elliott received 22% and newcomer Natalie Sheppard 15%.
