Rochester N.Y.- Clayton Whittemore was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years to life in prison.

Whittemore was convicted on May 30 of second-degree murder for the brutal beating death of his 18-year-old girlfriend, Alexandra Kogut.

Whittemore killed Kogut inside her dorm room in Septmeber of 2012.

Before the Judge handed down the sentence, Kogut’s mother, Becky, gave a victim impact statement describing how she had dropped off her daughter off to college two weeks before her death. She said she had a horrible fear she would never see Alexandra again.

Whittemore spoke briefly at the sentencing, apologizing to Alexandra’s family.
