The Rochester Institute of Technology is one of several universities and tech firms chosen by the state for projects to build a more reliable power grid for the 21st Century.

RIT is working on improving the flexibility of "microgrids" with the regular power grid.

Everyone from factories to individual homeowners are installing their own power grids these days. But sometimes they can cause issues with the regular power grid that affect other users down the line. RIT is working on controls that let the computer in your microgrid talk to the controls of the main grid to keep everything running smoothly and automatically.
