Rochester N.Y.-A federal grand jury in Rochester has indicted a former employee with defrauding Unity Health Systems to the tune of more than $268,000.
The U.S. Attorney for Western New York says Barbara Tripi of Lyndhurst, Ohio worked as director of accounts at Unity when she created a fake employee account. She began submitting fraudulent invoices for medical coding work supposedly being done by the fictional employee, and collected 57 paychecks worth $268,800.
She took the checks back to her home town in Ohio and deposited them in a bank account there, until she was caught by an FBI investigation.
She could spend 20 years in prison if convicted.
