Rochester N.Y.-The Democrat and Chronicle reporting this morning that statements made by the Independence Party chairman here which directed people to still vote for Richards, were taken from a opinion piece written for him by Gary Walker.

Walker is the mayor's spokesman and the city's communications director. Walker tells the paper he did that at the request of Molly Clifford who is the city's director of fire administration. Clifford also at one-time ran the local Democratic Party .

Richards dropped out of the race last month after losing the Democratic primary to City Council President Lovely Warren. He though remains on the November ballot on the Independence and Working Families party lines.

Richards issued a statement Monday, saying that he had not spoken with any party leader concerning the election
