Officials of Unity Health and Rochester General Health System say they're moving forward with merging the two companies -- and they say patients won't notice any difference in service.
Unity CEO William Hern says no facilities will close, and RGHS CEO Mark Clement says patients shouldn't notice any difference in service.
Hern and Clement say the merged health systems will employ about 14,000 people across the community in hospitals from Batavia to Clifton Springs. They will look for efficiencies in purchasing and other non-medical areas. They pledge no job cuts in the clinical departments.
The merger should become reality within a couple of months. Hern and Clement will serve temporarily as co-CEOs, but say the board will look for a permanent replacement. Both men have taken their names out of the running.
