GROVELAND, N.Y. (AP) _ Ten corrections officers are being treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a vacant building at Groveland Correctional Facility in western New York.


The Department of Corrections says the officers were injured while responding to the fire Monday evening. It started in an air conditioning unit in a building known as the Peterson Academic Building.



The injured officers are being treated at local hospitals and several others have been treated at the prison.


Acting Commissioner Anthony Annucci issued a statement thanking the officers for helping to extinguish the fire and wishing them a speedy recovery.


The medium-security prison is located in the Livingston County town of Groveland, 35 miles south of Rochester.
