State Labor Department figures say the Rochester Region added about 2,900 private sector jobs between last March and this March.

For Rochester, that's a growth rate of point-seven percent.

Statewide, the job count held steady -- no gain, no loss. A little more than 7-and-a-half million New Yorkers are holding down some sort of non-government job. Job growth was nearly four times as strong in the 10 downstate counties as in the 52 county upstate region.

Unemployment rates are released later in the month.
