Rochester, N.Y. - Beginning on October 1, the new statewide healthcare exchange will open for business as outlined in the Affordable care act.

The New York State of Health will allow healthcare options to some 2.4 million New Yorkers who previously may have found the cost of healthcare a financial burden. About 903,000 New Yorkers will become eligible for coverage under an extended Medicaid program while the remaining 1.5 million will be eligible for tax credit through the healthcare marketplace.

Young adults between the ages of 18-34 represent 42% of the uninsured in the state and stand to benefit the most.
