ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ Nearly 200 new candidates are getting set to join the ranks of the state police.

The 200th class of the New York State Police Academy graduates Tuesday from the Basic School in a ceremony at Empire State Plaza in downtown Albany before going to their new assignments around the state.

Among the newcomers are Joseph Crane, Jr., of Watkins Glen. Crane was in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years and went on two combat deployments, including ``Operation Enduring Freedom'' in Afghanistan. His duties there included training the Afghani military in tactics.
