Rochester, NY – NYSEG and Rochester Gas and Electric say they want their customers to replace their extra refrigerators and freezers. They say the extra freezer or fridge that is usually kept, in the basement or the garage can cost on average an extra $150 a year.

Beginning today through August 31, customers can call and have their old units picked up and they can receive a $30 incentive in addition to being entered to win a $250 prepaid debit card.

The energy companies say the additional cold storage units are generally old models that do not meet current New York State efficiency standards.
