(13WHAM) Irondequoit, N.Y. - The DEC is trying to figure out what's causing hundreds of fish to die in Irondequoit Bay.
People complained when the fish started floating up on the North end of the bay over the past month or so.
The DEC has sent out samples for testing, but suspect that it may be natural causes killing off the Gizzard Shad fishes.
The species is sensitive to temperature changes and may be reacting to the longer winter.
The DEC says residents should not be concerned about their safety.
Official test results are expected within the next week.
