What the heck is this thing?

It's a Bike Box at the corner of Ford St. and Mt. Hope Ave. Only bicycles are supposed to be in the green box when the light is red.

The new green paint is one of the reasons Rochester has been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as a "Bicycle Friendly Community." It's one of only two cities in New York State to be so honored.

Bike boxes are one of several bike-friendly intiatives including exclusive bicycle lanes and shared use lanes the city has installed on most of its arterial and "collector" streets that feed into them.
