BRANT, N.Y. (AP) _ State police say a van rear-ended a Thruway Authority dump truck south of Buffalo, killing one person and shutting down the eastbound lanes of the highway.

Troopers say a person in the van was killed when the vehicle drifted off the highway and hit the back of the truck around 7:45 a.m. Thursday as it was parked in the median of Interstate 90 in the southern Erie County town of Brant.

Police say a Thruway crew was picking up rubbish along the highway at the time of the crash. None of the workers was hurt.

The crash occurred in the eastbound lanes between exits 58 and 57A. Eastbound traffic is being diverted off the Thruway at Exit 58 and allowed back on at Exit 57A.
