Rochester police say their preliminary investigation shows a driver who was killed in a crash with an RTS bus this afternoon was trying to avoid another car that cut him off and made a sudden left turn in front of him.
When the driver swerved to avoid the car in front of him, he veered into the path of the oncoming bus. The impact on the driver's side of the car nearly tore the Dodge in half. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the bus driver was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. The bus wasn't in service at the time so there were no passengers on board.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash at West Main Street and Jefferson Avenue and they're asking for witnesses to call 911. They have not yet released the name of the victim (as of Monday evening).
