Rochester police first thought they were dealing with a man who'd been shot after a car crashed into a house at the corner of Strong and Hollenbeck Streets last night.
It turned out the man had been hit by a steel fence post that impaled his windshield during the crash. The 25-year-old victim is in critical, but stable condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Police say the man was driving at high speed down Hollenbeck and lost control as he approached the corner, crashing through the card and into the steps of 141 Strong Street. Two people sitting on the steps had to jump for it. They complained of leg pain and were checked out at Rochester General.
Police say speed was a factor in the accident and the driver will be cited. They're still investigating.
