Albany, N.Y. - Governor Cuomo is expected to sign the Compassionate Care Act into law, legalizing medical marijuana in the state.

The CCA will authorize medical marijuana for therapeutic purposes for patients with various diseases or conditions, including cancer, AIDS and epilepsy.

Patients, however, won't be allowed to smoke the drug, and instead would use vaporizing or would consume oil-based extracts.

Governor Cuomo has said previously that he expects the state to have the medical marijuana program up and running in 18 months.
