Rochester, N.Y. - The local Catholic diocese is asking parishioners to give a little more this year when they receive an envelope in the mail.

“It’s about taking care of each other especially those in need,” says Syracuse’s Bishop, and Rochester’s Apostolic Administrator, Robert Cunningham. “The ministries and services the Catholic Ministries Appeal funds impact every facet of catholic life and every Catholic in the diocese.”

The goal of this year's Catholic Ministries Appeal is to raise $5.875 million to help support the education of Catholic youth and support the church's charities, among other special initiatives. The funds raised by the appeal accounts for nearly half of the budget.

Last year was the fifth year in a row where they had exceeded a record.

“People of the diocese of Rochester have proven themselves to be extremely generous and they are committed to the work of the church; they are committed to the work of the church and helping us reach out to others.”

Last year, Catholic families in the 12-county diocese gave $5.4 million.

Parishioners will begin seeing the video below this week in their churches. They can also donate and find out more by clicking here.
