(13WHAM) Spencerport, N.Y. - A group opposed to moving the Monroe County Fair to Northampton Park from the Dome Arena in Henrietta retained a lawyer Wednesday night and threatened to sue the county if it moved ahead with its plans.
Around 40 people gathered at Union Street Eatery to talk about their concerns over the move.
By the end of the meeting, the group had come up with the thousands of dollars needed to retain an environmental lawyer.
"I love the fair, I love 4H, but that park is not the right place for it," said Dennis Kindred, who lives nearby Northampton.
Kindred is worried about the traffic, the permanent buildings that would be built and the selection process, which Kindred says left out public input.
Monroe County decided to move the fair after the Monroe County Fair and Recreation Association was forced to sell the Dome Arena.
The county chose Northampton as its new home and selected the association to continue running the agricultural fair.
"It’s a logical place because it’s smack dab in the middle of farm country," said parks director Larry Staub.
Staub says the county legislature will likely approve the move next Tuesday.
Carrie Andrews, a democratic legislator, says she will move to table the vote.
